Data You Give Us Directly
Search Queries
A name or location entered in a search tool is sent to the outside provider that operates that tool. The provider processes the request and supplies its results. Hertford County Criminal History does not keep or log those search terms on its own systems.
Messages and Contact Submissions
An email sent to us may be retained so a response can be provided. It is kept within the organization unless disclosure is required by a valid legal obligation.
Data We Gather Automatically
Technical information can be recorded when a visitor loads a page. It helps measure use and keep the service working.
- The device's Internet Protocol address
- Browser name and version
- Operating system and device category
- Pages viewed and time spent on them
- Referring website, when available
- Date and time of each request
Cookies and Analytics
Cookies are small files stored on a device. Analytics services use them to create aggregate traffic reports, such as which pages receive visits and where sessions end. A browser can reject cookies, though some features may then work differently.
What We Do With This Data
Collected data is used only for operating and understanding the service.
- Maintain site function and page speed
- Route search requests to the selected partner
- Measure which content visitors use
- Find and correct technical faults
- Display advertising that may reflect visitor interests
No Criminal-Record Data on File
This website does not compile, maintain, or sell a database of personal criminal records. Its content explains how to reach the Hertford County Clerk of Superior Court, the Hertford County Sheriff's Office, the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation, and the North Carolina Sex Offender and Public Protection Registry. Visitor information is not assembled into a consumer report, and the website is not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act.
Third-Party Search Partners
Outside companies power the search boxes. Information submitted through a box is governed by that company's privacy policy, retention rules, and sharing practices. Those choices are outside our control. Review the provider's policy before submitting a query.
Links to Other Websites
Links may lead to the Hertford County government site, North Carolina court and agency portals, legal resources, or outside search providers. Once a visitor follows a link, the destination's privacy policy applies. Its terms should be reviewed before personal information is supplied.
Advertising companies may also use their own systems to follow activity across websites for targeted advertising. That tracking is not run on our servers.
Who Might See Your Data
Personal data is not sold. Limited information may be available to the following parties when needed for their stated role.
- Partners that process a search a visitor chooses to run
- Analytics vendors that report traffic and performance
- Advertising networks that place ads
- Government or law-enforcement bodies acting under a valid legal demand
How We Protect Your Data
Standard safeguards are used to protect collected information. No internet service can promise perfect security, however, and this policy does not guarantee that unauthorized access or a breach can never occur.
Users Under 18
The website is intended for adults and does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If information from a minor is identified, a request may be made for its prompt deletion.
Your Data Rights
Applicable law may provide additional rights based on where a visitor lives. North Carolina's Public Records Law in Chapter 132 governs records held by public agencies, while G.S. 143B-1208.15 addresses the SBI repository and dissemination of fingerprint-linked criminal-history data. Those laws do not make this private website the custodian of Hertford County government records. For data held here, a visitor may:
- Request a copy of personal information on file
- Ask that incorrect personal information be corrected
- Request deletion of personal information
- Opt out of processing when applicable law provides that choice
Updates to This Policy
This policy may be revised. A new version becomes available on this page and carries an updated effective date, so visitors should review it periodically.
